The Big Bee Festival – NEW in Swellendam
A new family friendly festival over the long weekend in August (9. - 11.2013) is set to draw the crowds to Swellendam at the peak of its beautiful Canola blossom season.
The Big Bee is a three day celebration of lifestyle, action and nature and it all coincides with the presence of the National Beekeepers Conference, hence the fun name and theme.
There is plenty to see and do; taste different Beautiful foods, enjoy the Bands and Beer.
One of South Africa's oldest towns, Swellendam is a mere 2.5 hour drive from Cape Town along the N2 which leads to the Garden Route towards Mossel Bay. The picturesque town on the Breede River is always great for a stop-over when touring the 'Garden Route' or for a stay in the beautiful Overberg Region.
There are plenty of historic sites and nature reserves such as Bontebok National Park, Marloth Nature Reserve and nearby DeHoop Nature Reserve. The Overberg region with many quaint towns is great for a holiday with your family due to the manifold activities on offer. Driving over Tradouwspass warrants for fantastic mountain views.
Canoeing on the Breede River is fun for the whole family. Horse Riding, Golfing, Hiking and Cycling are other outdoors activities to enjoy.
